Annecy animation festival 2025

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of visiting the Annecy animation festival for the first time. This experience was amazing and unforgettable. I got to have fun with my friends, run into familiar faces and meet new people.

As a second year animation student, this festival felt like my first ‘real’ step into the animation world. I got to see my passion exist outside of school. Honestly, I’ve been feeling pretty negative about my future career lately. It felt like it was an abstract dream that was never really going to happen. However, being in Annecy was a much needed reminder that it is possible to have career in art. Being there, surrounded by animation and the people that create it, made me realise that I can do it too. Of course, it’s not going to be easy and it might take me a while to get there, but I know I will find my way eventually. This shift of perspective has left me with a lot of motivation and passion to create the best art I can.

my main takeaways from my week in Annecy:

  • It’s important to connect with people who share your passion. This is what keeps you going.
  • be a little bit deranged
  • trust your vision
  • the lake in Annecy is really beautiful
  • plein air sketching is fun
